Accessibility Statement for Murmuring Muse / Literature with Khayer

murmuringmuse.com Last updated: 5 December 2025

Literature with Khayer is a non-commercial educational blog that provides free, in-depth literary analyses of English Literature texts prescribed in BA and MA syllabi across Indian universities (with special focus on West Bengal) and worldwide. The blog is supported only by voluntary subscriptions and Google Ads. Our mission is to make quality literary guidance freely available to every student and literature lover, irrespective of disability.

We are therefore firmly committed to digital accessibility.

Standards we follow

This website strives to conform to Level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 and to the Indian Standard IS 17802:2021 (Accessibility for ICT Products and Services), as required under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.

Measures we have taken

  • Proper heading hierarchy and logical reading order on every page and blog post

  • Descriptive alternative text for all meaningful images (book covers, infographics, author portraits, etc.)

  • Sufficient colour contrast throughout the site

  • All site functions (navigation, search, subscription form, comments) are operable through a keyboard

  • Text resizing up to 200 % without loss of content or functionality

  • Captions and/or transcripts provided for any audio or video content (readings, lectures, etc.)

  • Language of the page clearly declared for screen readers

  • Regular testing with automated tools (WAVE, axe) and manual screen-reader checks (NVDA)

Limitations and partial conformance

Despite our best efforts, some limitations remain:

  1. Certain advertisements served by Google AdSense are third-party content over which we have no control. These may not always meet full accessibility standards.

  2. Older blog posts published before 2024 are being progressively updated with proper alt text and headings.

We declare partial conformance with WCAG 2.1 AA and IS 17802:2021 because of the above third-party advertisements.

Continuous improvement

We review accessibility whenever we publish new content and conduct a full site audit at least once every year. Readers’ feedback is our most valuable audit tool.
